Dr. Meyer-Bahlburg received his graduate-school training in Experimental and Clinical Psychology at the Universities of Hamburg and Dusseldorf in Germany. From 1970 to 1977, he codirected the Program of Psychoendocrinology at the Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, NY, while on faculty at SUNY/Buffalo. Since 1977, he has been serving as Research Scientist at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, as clinician at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, and as faculty at the Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University, where he is currently Professor of Clinical Medical Psychology in Psychiatry. His primary research work concerns the developmental psychology of gender and sexuality and its clinical implications. He has served on the APA’s nosological workgroups for DSM-III-R, DSM-IV, and DSM-5, and on various international Work Groups and Task Forces (including WPATH’s SOC-7, SOC-8) for the development of treatment gudidelines for persons with atypical sex/gender development.
